I go hiking a lot, and where I live in the Pacific Northwest, the forests are incredibly lush. The plant life can get so dense that it’s impossible to see too far ahead. So I study the details of what I see before me—the bark, branches, twigs, fronds, leaves, and even the pinecones underfoot. The pieces you see here were inspired by the small discoveries that awaited me along the forest floor.
