Last day on the trail. What a beautiful (long=15+ miles) walk from Hondaribbia to San Sebastián. So lucky to have been able to do this walk with Geoff in this amazing country full of community and pride. (Thanks to Geoff for his reel making abilities!😊).

Bera to Hondaribbia. A beautiful ridgeline in France, ibex, more cows, horses and sheep, a boat ride back to Spain. Hondaribbia: a beautiful walled city and amazing accommodations. So lucky!

We just finished day 3 of 7, hiking from Ziga to San Sebastián in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is amazing country both the landscapes and the Basque culture. Walking through these small villages and farms has been insightful as we see the amazing sense of community and care taken in maintaining the farms, homes and villages. It is beautiful in so many ways. Stone dwellings that have lasted centuries. There are horses, sheep and cows wandering the countryside with bells on their necks. Stone walls line the paths and country roads we are walking. Looking forward to the next few days except maybe the 1” of rain predicted for tomorrow. 😳

This is another piece that I collaborated on @frogwood_collab with @glassheart_pdx Anumi brought me these beautiful glass links that she created and I had brought this safety glass along not knowing how I might use it. They paired perfectly together and then I had to create the findings to pull it all together.

Holdfast. As an aquatic term, a holdfast is a root-like structure that anchors aquatic organisms to a substrate, like algae or seaweeds. I found this holdfast washed up on the beach and had saved it to possibly cast. During the Frogwood Collab, @rongerton and I cast it into bronze and @feltstrong made the felt cording that linked the two. I love how ideas are worked through at the collab. In this instance, I was wandering through the work areas on the first day and brainstormed with Ron on how to cast the piece. I stopped by Lisa’s (@feltstrong) workspace to see what she was working on and showed her the holdfast. We started brainstorming ideas to connect the two parts. I loved her idea of a felt cord connection. We both worked on our separate parts and it came together by the very last minute of the last day!

Long earthy bling. Can you have earthy and bling together? This might be my favorite piece of the new collection. Green tourmaline, lattice moonstone and dendritic quartz with a tiny sprig of Douglas fir.

New Sweetfern (Comptonia peregrina) hoops. I bought a Sweetfern plant when I saw it at the Seattle Arboretum because I wanted to try to cast those sweet little fronds and they cast beautifully. This is not actually a fern but a small shrub that is native in the eastern United States. The plant is thriving in my garden so now I have an endless supply of these fern like leaves. Dendritic Agates and cast cedar fronds. I made a pair similar to this before Christmas and decided I wanted to a whole collection with Dendritic agates. The inclusions that look like tree branches or ferns are actually a combination of iron oxide and manganese elements intermingling with microcrystalline quartz. I am still working on more pieces for this collection. Next up 3 new necklaces that are almost done!

The turnout today in Port Townsend for the Hand Off protest was impressive and it felt good to join so many others that are feeling angry, sad and afraid for country. It gives me hope to see so many rallies around the country and so many people who believe what is happening in our country is wrong. Another new pair of earrings in the new collection. These have a couple of cast lilac seed pods and grey sapphires paired with dendritic agates. I had hoped to release the collection this week but I’ve decided to wait. I have quite a few more pieces that I’ve started and am really excited about. We are headed out on a SW roadtrip so instead of hunkering down with this collection, I will be exploring the trails and slot canyons in Utah for a few weeks. This collection will be waiting for me when I return. Hopefully you are patient if you are eyeing one of these pieces ❤️😊

A few more Oaxaca photos. We spent a day visiting local villages where we saw rug weaving, ceramics, arebrijes (intricately carved and colorfully painted animals), and back strap weaving. Each artist home and studio was beautiful in a way that is found in these warm climates where people spend so much time in the open air and gardens. The work is highly detailed and one can see the time taken with each piece. The care put into each animal, each vase, each textile is what makes me love these crafts so much.

So Sassy!! Working on some new designs with some amazing flat beach stones I collected this summer. It’s New Year’s Eve- guess what this sassy girl will be swinging from her lobes at the party tonight?!?! They are really light for how big these stones are- because they are soooo flat!
