In this one-of-a-kind necklace, multiple textures and colors join to create a piece that is bold yet natural, utterly striking yet easily wearable. The triangular blue stone is Leland Blue—a beautiful, vibrant stone with an odd and fascinating history. It washes up on the shores of Michigan beaches, a byproduct of smelting iron ore in the late 1800s. The stone is bezel-set in sterling silver. To offset the brilliant blue of the stone, I cast tree bark in sterling silver, oxidized it to darken it and bring out the intricacy of the bark texture, and attached it to the bail. Hanging below the stone is a delicate yet sturdy New Zealand flax pod cast in sterling silver.
