"And all at once summer collapsed into fall." Oscar Wilde
This quote by Oscar Wilde says it all. As much as I love summer, the month of September has become my favorite month. For so many years, September always symbolized the return of routines, kids going back to school, me going back to school when I was teaching. Those beautiful September days were so bittersweet. Now that I am self employed and in the studio most days, I can fully appreciate the cool crisp mornings and sunny afternoons . I love the freedom that I have in my days, being able to go for runs in the morning and work in the studio for the rest of the day and more often late into the evenings since my husband has been traveling a lot.

Casting new plants from my garden and also from the many cool things that friends are collecting and bringing to me has kept me busy this fall along with finishing some custom work that I am doing for clients. Direct casting straight from natural objects has made me look at the world in a whole new way and I love it that it is also making my friends look around them searching for things for me to make into jewelry. As my friend Ron says, " Nature does it best!"

The Dream client
Last spring, I received a mysterious box in the mail. I wasn't expecting any packages. I opened it up and inside was a bag of beautiful polished rocks and a generous check with a note that said, " Here are our rocks from the Mediterranean coast of Spain. After some thought I would really like a full set made - earrings and necklace to match. There is no hurry, by next Christmas would be great." Of course no-one should say that to me because then I don't do it until close to the deadline. Well, I set to work on it a few weeks ago and here are the pieces that I finished for her. It was a fun project and I appreciated the freedom to play with designs and ideas. I had one necklace almost finished and then decided I didn't like the way it hung so I scrapped that idea and changed it up. I also made 3 sets of earrings and 2 small pendants for her daughters. Thank you dream client.
Remember if you have some favorite rocks or even plants, pods, or cones. I do commissions and can make a piece to memorialize a special occasion or vacation from your treasures.
